This course runs once a week for three hours over a six-week period and will guide you through the essentials of wheel throwing.
In the first two sessions, you’ll learn the basics of throwing on the wheel, including how to center the clay and pull a cylinder, before progressing to forming bowls by stretching the clay.
The third session will focus on trimming, where you’ll shape foot rims and clean the bottoms of your pots. This session also introduces slip decoration techniques and attaching handles.
During the fourth session, we’ll explore creating more complex and enjoyable forms, such as candle holders and small vases. In the final week, each student will have the chance to glaze their pieces with a variety of our studio’s house glazes.
For those who are more experienced, you are more than welcome! We can explore the techniques that best suit your goals and help you refine your skills to achieve the forms you want to pursue.
After your final glaze session, we will need 2-3 weeks to fire all your work. We will notify you via email when your piece is ready for pickup.
For the work that you decide to fire there will be a charge of £5 per kilogram to cover materials (clay, glaze) and firings.
This course will take place once a week on Wednesday evenings, for a total of 6 weeks between 15th January and 19th February ‘25. Each session will be held from 6:30PM to 9:30 PM.
